On this page I will share several examples of different projects, resources, lesson plans and assessments that I have used.

Health

  • General:

Whenever I am teaching a Health or Wellness class, I always teach the students about all of the dimensions of health and wellness.  This includes starting the class by showing the Wellness Wheel as well as the circle of courage, comparing and contrasting them to one another as well as examples or non-examples in our own lives.

Health Sciences 20

  • Nutrition: Major Project

I was very fortunate this past semester to be able to pilot the new Health Sciences 20 course.  As the final major project to our nutrition unit, the class made cooking show movies.  The students were given three options: 1. Cooking show using healthier/alternative ingredients 2. Cultural cooking show 3. Tea-making show.  Along with their videos students were required to make a fun trailer for their show using iMovie on the iPads.  All final works turned out great and all students showed comprehension of content and enjoyed learning at the same time!

Here is an example of a trailer:

  • Equlibrium

To begin our unit on equilibrium, as a set I instructed the following demonstration, then followed up with questions to ensure understanding as a formative assessment.

Leadership 20

In Leadership  20, I had the students create blogs/eportfolios for themselves, and the first assignment was to discover their personality colour.  This is the rubric we co-constructed as a class:

True Colours -e portfolio rubric

Another activity I taught in Leadership 20 was a Teamwork Activity.  The students were paired off into different groups, and it was their responsibility to create an icebreaker or a team building activity.  Once again we co-constructed criteria to create these peer evaluation forms that became their formative assessment for this assignment.

For an Environmental Education class, I created an entire website with the purpose to help educators incorporate environmental education into Health lessons from K – 12.
